The Star Prime Balanced Fund will be a Multi Asset High Equity Fund. The objective of the Star Prime Balanced Fund is to provide investors with consistent capital appreciation, net of investment fees over rolling six year periods with no negative rolling 24 month periods. The portfolio will invest in all asset classes including but not limited to investments in the equity, bond, money and property markets. The composition of the portfolio shall reflect the investment structure of a retirement fund and will comply with prudential investment guidelines to the extent allowed by the Act.
The maximum local and global listed equity, excluding property exposure, will be 75% of the net asset value of the Portfolio and the Property exposure of the Portfolio will be limited to 20% of the net asset value of the Portfolio. Fixed income exposure may be of shorter duration and of a floating rate nature versus the ALBI or its global equal.
The portfolio may invest in participatory interests of portfolios of collective investment schemes and may invest in any other forms of participation in portfolios of collective investment schemes or other similar collective investment schemes as the Act may allow from time to time, and which are consistent with the portfolio's investment policy. Where the aforementioned schemes are operated in in territories other than South Africa, participatory interest or any other form of participation in portfolios of these schemes will be
included in the portfolio only where the regulatory environment which is to the satisfaction of the manager and the trustee and is of a sufficient standard to provide investor protection at least equivalent to that in South Africa. The portfolio may from time to time invest in listed and unlisted financial instruments, in accordance with the provisions of the Act, and the Regulations thereto, as amended from time to time, in order to achieve the portfolio's investment objective. The manager may also include forward currency, interest rate and exchange rate swap transactions for efficient portfolio management purposes.
Nothing in this Supplemental Deed shall preclude the manager from varying the ratios of securities or assets in liquid form in changing economic or market conditions, or to meet the requirements in terms of legislation and from retaining cash or placing cash on deposit in terms of the Deed and this Supplemental Deed.
The trustee shall ensure that the investment policy, as set out in this Supplemental Deed is carried out. For the purpose of this portfolio, the manager shall reserve the right to close the portfolio to new investors on a date determined by the manager. This will be done in order to be able to manage the portfolio in accordance with its mandate. The manager may, once the portfolio has been closed, open the portfolio again to new investors on a date determined by the manager.
